Lot 61 of 364: An early 17th Century Mortuary hilt broadsword, 81.5cm blade incised with a running wolf mark and SAHAGUM to either side, characteristic iron hilt with flattened guard and forward and rear facing quillons, the main knuckle guard supported by two shorter looping and scrolling supports, elongated ovoid pommel. Generally patinated. See page 268, and both Illustrations numbered IV in British Basket-Hilted Swords by C. Mazansky for a sword of almost identical configuration in the Royal Armouries.
